A Crown (or Cap) is used to repair a damaged or heavily filled tooth & it can also alter the shape or colour of the tooth, as well as strengthening it.
The tooth is shaped to allow enough space for the crown to fit over it & then an impression is taken. A Dental Technician then makes the crown out of the most suitable material:
All Porcelain for front teeth, where the appearance of the crown is most important.
Porcelain bonded to a gold alloy for back teeth, where the strength of the crown is the most important factor.
All Gold for back teeth in exceptional circumstances, when the patients bite is very strong or there’s very little space.

My teeth were never really straight and so in the late months of 2008 my dentist (Boyd Jamieson) suggest having a brace put in, as there was not enough room in my mouth for all my teeth. I leaped at the chance to straighten out my teeth. We arranged a date for the brace to be fitted and a few teeth to be removed, after seeing that I had one more than I was supposed to! Over the next 15 months or so I simply went in every 4-5 weeks to have the brace tightened and to have new wires put in, not a tiresome task at all. After the first couple of appointments, I never really noticed the brace even being there. After the brace was removed, moulds of my new teeth were taken to allow special retainers to be made to keep my teeth straight permanently. Like the braces, after a very short while I never even noticed they were there. I was extremely pleased with the braces and retainers, and the result of them both on my teeth.
Fantastic dental practice! Great for all our family!
If you’re thinking of having a dental Implant done, don’t hesitate, just do it. My Dental Implant has improved my quality of life, I can smile with confidence & eat my favourite steaks. I think my Dental implant was value for money.
I recently had a fissure seal put in by my dentist (Boyd Jamieson) because there were little crevices in my teeth that were likely to get decayed. The fissure seal seals these crevices and ensures that it's less likely to decay. He cleaned my tooth, and then put some funny tasting gel on my tooth (just don't put your tongue on it!). They hardened it with some blue light for a few seconds and voila! It wasn't painful in any way and it was quick and easy! It made me feel happier about my teeth and I wasn't worried about decay any more!
At a check up, my dentist (Boyd Jamieson) spotted signs of tooth erosion caused by my jaw-clenching whilst asleep. He provided me with a splint (a custom-made gum shield) to wear at night which has prevented further erosion. It has also completely eradicated the regular migraines that I suffered from due to tension build up in the jaw.
